VAT Changes - January 2021

As of January 1st we will no longer be charging EU customers any UK-based VAT on their purchases, so you will receive your goodies at the same price as those players currently outside the EU. However.....

As your goodies will now be entering the EU from a "third country" you "may" get charged local VAT and a handling charge by your postal service when you receive them.
This will apply for any goods which are not classified as zero-VAT from ANY non-EU seller, regardless if they were registered for UK VAT or not. For info: miniatures, terrain, paint, etc are not zero-VAT. Books are zero-VAT.

There's an EU anti-fraud directive/regulation that exists outside of Brexit which will kick in. It was due to start on January 1st 2021 for everyone, but the EU put their side of the implementation back by 6 months due to Covid-19. Due to Brexit, the UK government did not.

On 5 December 2017, the Council adopted the VAT e-commerce package consisting of:

Council Directive (EU) 2017/2455
Council Regulation (EU) 2017/2454
Council Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2459
On 21 November 2019, the Council adopted the implementing measures for VAT e-commerce package consisting of:

Council Directive (EU) 2019/1995
Council Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/2026

(more details about this can be found on the EU's website - https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/business/vat/modernising-vat-cross-border-ecommerce_en )

The regulation is to prevent packages marked as having low-cost values from coming into the EU (e.g. from the Far East) and avoiding taxes. As a consequence of this the 22 Euro limit before tax is paid will be removed, so ALL parcels entering the EU will become liable for tax.

The (slightly) good news is that as of July 1st the EU also implement the directive/regulation and enable a mechanism which will allow us to charge EU customers VAT again, but this time it will be based on where you live not where you've purchased the item - so if you live in France, you'll be changed the French VAT rate, if you live in Belgium you'll be charged the VAT rate in Belgium.

This means you won't be charged any import / handling fees and we hand the VAT you pay over to the EU.

The parcel will have an appropriate EORI number on it which will indicate you have already paid the VAT.
