£6.00 inc. VAT

Dactylopius coccus.

This is made from the ground beetles. Use at 6% WOF.

This is a strong dye and can be used several times giving slightly different tones and shades.

An Alum mordant is required for protein fibres.

A tannin and Aluminium Potassium Sulphate mordant can be used for cellulose fibres.

Or you can use these for cellulose fibres
Aluminium Acetate at 5% in a heated mordant bath.
or
Aluminium Lactate at 5% in either a cold or heated mordant bath.

The left-hand skein shows how all the skeins originally came out of the dye pot. The other four were each dipped into a different modifier bath for approximately 10 minutes. From left-to-right these modifier baths were Citric Acid, Ammonia, Copper and Iron.

The dyed samples are as follows
