£5.00 inc. VAT

Chlorophoria tinctoria – also know as Dyers Mulberry

This natural dye produces a yellow colour, no mordant is required but using a mordant will increase the colourfastness of this natural dye colour.

Use this natural dye at a ratio of 40% dyestuff to fibres.

The picture shows wool which has been mordanted with alum, then dyed with fustic.

The left-hand skein shows how all the skeins originally came out of the dye pot. The other four were each dipped into a different modifier bath for approximately 10 minutes. From left-to-right these modifier baths were Citric Acid, Ammonia, Copper and Iron.

A tannin and Alum or Aluminium Acetate / Aluminium Lactate can be used for all cellulose fibres.
The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = golden yellow
Alum + Citric Acid = golden yellow
Alum + Ammonia = deeper golden yellow
Alum + Copper = old gold yellow
Alum + Iron = golden green
