This natural dye produces shades of rust and brown. No mordant is required. Mix the powder into a paste before adding to the dye-bath.

This can also be used as a fermentation base for a 1-2-3 indigo vat.

Use this natural dye to a ratio of 75% dyestuff to fibres.

Suitable for use in Eco dyeing, Eco printing, candle and soap making.

Please wear gloves as this dye will stain your hands.

The picture shows wool which has been mordanted with alum, then dyed with henna red.

The left-hand skein shows how all the skeins originally came out of the dye pot. The other four were each dipped into a different modifier bath for approximately 10 minutes. From left-to-right these modifier baths were Citric Acid, Ammonia, Copper and Iron.

The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = yellow brown
Alum + Citric Acid = pale brown
Alum + Ammonia = yellow brown
Alum + Copper = yellow brown
Alum + Iron = yellow green
