Logwood Chips [100g]

Haematoxlon campechianum

This dye comes from the inner bark of the Logwood Tree. These chips can be used several times, use at a rate of 10% to weight of fibre. For darker dyes use at a stronger rate up to 20%.
The colours produced range from violet, mauve, grey. Black can be achieved with the help of an iron modifier.

An Alum mordant is required for protein fibres.

A tannin and Alum mordant are required for all cellulose fibres. If required you can use the following

Aluminium Acetate at 5% in a heated mordant bath.
Aluminium Lactate at 5% in either a cold or heated mordant bath.
The skeins have been mordanted with Alum and modified.
The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = blue
Alum + Citric Acid = brown
Alum + Ammonia = blue
Alum + Copper = blue
Alum + Iron = dark blue

Not food safe, so please do not make a drink with this dye.
