Haematoxylum campechinanum – also known as Bloodwood

This dye comes from the inner bark of the Logwood Tree. The powder can be used at a rate of 5g – 10g to 100g of wool fibre. Mix into a paste before adding to the dye bath.

The colours produced range from violet, mauve, grey. Black can be achieved with the help of an iron modifier.

An Alum mordant is required for protein fibres.

A tannin and Alum mordant are required for all cellulose fibres.

For cellulose fibres use either
Aluminium Acetate at 5% in a heated mordant bath.
Aluminium Lactate at 5% in either a cold or heated mordant bath.

The dyed skeins are all mordanted with alum.
Top – Alum – dark blue
2nd – Alum + Citric acid – brown
3rd – Alum + Ammonia – dark blue
4th – Alum + Copper- dark blue
Bottom – Alum + Iron – dark blue

Not food safe, so please do not make a drink with this dye.

Comes in a bag of 50g in weight.
