Pomegranate Rind – Cut [100g]

Punica granatum

This Natural Dye material contains the dried chopped skins. Which is a waste product from the fruit industry. Will give yellow colours with an Alum mordant and green to black with an Iron modifier.
This dye is rich in tannin.

Use at equal quantities to fibre.

An Alum mordant is required for protein fibres.

For cellulose fibres use either
Aluminium Acetate at 5% in a heated mordant bath.
or
Aluminium Lactate at 5% in either a cold or heated mordant bath.

In the images below, the wool skein has been treated with (from top to bottom / left to right) Alum, Citric Acid, Ammonia, Copper Sulphate, Iron (Ferrous Sulphate).

The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = golden yellow
Alum + Citric Acid = paler golden yellow
Alum + Ammonia = bright golden yellow
Alum + Copper = deep golden yellow
Alum + Iron = deep olive green

Not food safe, so please do not make a drink with this dye.
