£5.00 inc. VAT

Rheum palmatum

This Natural Dye produces a yellow colour and with the careful use of household ammonia, once the fibre has been dyed, can change the colour to a pink.

Use at 100% per dry weight of fibre.

An Alum mordant is required for protein fibres.

A tannin and Alum mordant are required for all cellulose fibres.

For cellulose fibres use either
Aluminium Acetate at 5% in a heated mordant bath.
or
Aluminium Lactate at 5% in either a cold or heated mordant bath.

The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = creamy yellow
Alum + Citric Acid = pale creamy yellow
Alum + Ammonia = creamy pink
Alum + Copper = tan
Alum + Iron = dark tan

Not food safe, so please do not make a drink with this dye.

In the images below, the wool skein has been treated with (from top to bottom / left to right) Alum, Citric Acid, Ammonia, Copper Sulphate, Iron (Ferrous Sulphate).
