This Natural Dye produces a yellow colour and with the careful use of household ammonia, once the fibre has been dyed, can change the colour to a pink.
Use at 6 – 10% to dry weight of fibre.
An Alum mordant is required for protein fibres.
A tannin and Alum mordant are required for all cellulose fibres.
For cellulose fibres use either
Aluminium Acetate at 5% in a heated mordant bath.
Aluminium Lactate at 5% in either a cold or heated mordant bath.
In the images, the wool skeins have been treated with (from top to bottom / left to right) Alum, Citric Acid, Ammonia, Copper Sulphate, Iron (Ferrous Sulphate).
The small wool skeins have been mordanted with Alum and then a modifier has been used.
The dyed samples are as follows
Alum – no modifier = creamy yellow
Alum + Citric Acid = pale creamy yellow
Alum + Ammonia = creamy pink
Alum + Copper = tan
Alum + Iron = dark tan
